MAYAN EMPIRE
MAYAN DISCOVERIES.
Some things many people don't know is that many of the foods we eat know came from the Maya. Chocolate and avocados are some of the many foods that the Maya introduced to the world. The Maya used cacao beans (chocolate beans) for trade, for example 10 beans would buy you a rabbit and 100 beans would buy you a slave. The Mayans also used chocolate in religious ceremonies instead of blood. Chocolate was also used in marriage ceremonies where the bride and groom would exchange chocolate. The Mayans even had a cacao god ! Although chocolate was only used for drinking , solid chocolate was unknown to the Mayans.
Avocados is another creation of the Maya. The Maya used avocados to make dye for clothes. Although avocados were mainly used for eating.
AcuEducts
The pictures above are of different aqueducts systems. Aqueducts are a creation of the Mayan empire, the aqueducts where used to travel fresh mountain water all through out the Mayan empire. The way the aqueducts work is through tunnels for example an aqueduct pipe ( first picture) will run form a mountain stream to a stair case pipes (middle picture) and into a big pool like circle filled with water for the entire city. You can find aqueducts in palenque mexico where the Mayans once lived.
ULama
This is a picture of a ball court that the Mayans used to play a game called ulama. Ulama is a game similar to soccer but a little different. The game is won when a player on one of the 2 teams kicks the ball out of bounds or does not kick it .
